Extra services will run on Nottingham's trams six days a week in the run up to Christmas.

The changes are focussed on evening services and supporting the city's night-time economy, Nottingham Express Transit (NET) said.

The new timetable had already been used on Saturday, and will run again on 7 December, before being rolled out Monday to Saturday from 9 December to Christmas Eve.

At peak time on the festive timetable - 15:00 to 00:00 GMT - trams will run every four minutes, compared to the normal service level where trams run every seven, 10 or 15 minutes, depending on the time.

A standard Sunday service will run throughout this period.

There will be no service on Christmas Day, with a Sunday service available on Boxing Day.

Normal service will resume from 27 December until 31 December and a Sunday service will operate on 1 January, officials said.

Sarah Turner, service delivery and safety director at NET, said: “Over the years, we’ve seen traditional peak Christmas shopping and social times extend, with more demand to get in and around the city far sooner in December than ever before.

"This is good news for Nottingham’s retail and night-time economy, and we’re pleased to evolve our service to meet this change in customer behaviour, helping people to travel quickly and safely during this busy time.”
