A Lamborghini was among 101 vehicles seized in a week-long crackdown on uninsured drivers, police said.

Lancashire Police said uninsured drivers are statistically more likely to be involved in collisions and to be linked to wider criminal activity.

Officers seized the supercar and 100 others as they carried out checks between 10 and 16 November.

Ch Insp John Jennings-Wharton from the roads policing unit said: "Every uninsured driver is a danger to themselves and to others."

He added: "We're protecting lives and sending a clear message, driving without insurance is reckless and unacceptable".

Ch Insp Jennings-Wharton urged anyone with information about unlicensed and uninsured drivers to come forward as such drivers "have the potential to cause harm to innocent members of the public".

'Unlimited fine'

Anyone caught without insurance could face a £300 fine, six penalty points on their licence and have their vehicle seized and potentially crushed, he added.

If a case went to court, this could result in an unlimited fine and a possible driving ban.

Clive Grunshaw, Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner, said targeted enforcement operations like this were vital for improving road safety and the results spoke for themselves.

"It is important that everyone in Lancashire is safe and feels safe on our roads," he said.
