Two men and a woman have been arrested after a car was set on fire in Leicester.

Leicestershire Police said a silver Volkswagen Tiguan was set alight in Barnwell Avenue at about 02:40 GMT on Saturday.

The fire destroyed the car and caused damage to two other vehicles as well as the windows of two houses.

Two men, 46 and 48, have been arrested on suspicion of arson, and a 38-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson. All three have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The force said there were no injuries as a result of the fire, but nearby residents had to be evacuated until it was extinguished.

Det Con Alex Horwood said: "We would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen a group of five people in the area at the time.

"It is believed that the group of four men and one woman arrived in a vehicle in Halifax Drive, before making their way on foot to Barnwell Avenue. Shortly after the fire was started, the group returned to their vehicle which drove off."

Officers have urged anyone with information about the fire to get in contact with the force.
