Airport gives travel advice over planned roadworks

An airport has advised passengers flying this weekend to leave extra time for travelling due to overnight works on a nearby road.
National Highways is due to carry out repairs on the A453 between junction 24a of the M1 and the Kegworth Bypass overnight between 20:00 BST and 05:00 on both Saturday and Sunday.
East Midlands Airport said the scheduled repairs could affect customers travelling to catch the earliest flights on Sunday and Monday, and those who are due to arrive after 20:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
The work, which is needed to repair damage caused by a crash, will also affect the East Midlands Gateway roundabout.
A spokesperson for EMA said: “We understand from Highways England that diversions will be in place and so advise customers to allow a little extra time for their journeys here if they would normally expect to use the stretch of the A453 between junction 24 of the M1 and Donington Services before 05:00.”
During the closures, the eastbound lane of the Kegworth Bypass will be closed to drivers between its junctions with the A453 and Ashby Road, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
Meanwhile, westbound traffic will only be able to turn left onto the A453 towards the Finger Farm roundabout.
Drivers leaving East Midlands Gateway will have to turn left towards junction 24a of the M1.
Lane closures are also planned on the A453 for those travelling both northbound and southbound.
