A driver who killed a motorcyclist in a crash has avoided jail after he admitted causing his death by careless driving.

David Bartley, 51, died after he was struck by a car driven by Peter Tancos, 39, on Hellaby Lane in Rotherham on 1 February 2023.

Tancos appeared at Sheffield Crown Court for sentencing earlier and was given a 10-month prison term, suspended for two years.

Judge Sarah Wright also banned him from driving for three years and ordered him to complete 300 hours of unpaid work.

Tancos, of Belmont Street, Rotherham, had pleaded guilty to the offence at an earlier hearing.

South Yorkshire Police said the collision between the Honda motorcycle and Volkswagen Golf happened near the entrance to Stanley Tools on the Hellaby industrial estate.

Mr Bartley was from Doncaster and died at the scene, police added in an appeal released at the time.
