Castle fireworks display cancelled over costs

A fireworks event held in the gardens of a castle has been cancelled due to rising costs.

The display, held at Sherborne Castle, Dorset, was expected to take place as normal in November.

Posting on social media, organisers said: "We have made the decision not to run the event for 2024 due to ever-increasing costs to stage this event."

The display went ahead last year but was cancelled in 2022, also due to increased costs.

Post lockdown in 2021 queuing to get on to the site on meant some would-be spectators missed the display while others were turned away at the gates.

The year before it was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tickets for this year's event were yet to go on sale.
