Passengers at Peterborough station should expect disruption over the weekend

  • Published

Rail passengers are being warned of disruption over the bank holiday weekend.

National Rail said buses would replace some trains due to engineering work taking place over the three days.

Train operator London North Eastern Railway (LNER) said the work involved signalling updates along the southern part of the East Coast Mainline, between St Neots, Cambridgeshire, and King’s Cross station, London.

No LNER, Hull Trains, Lumo or Grand Central services will run to or from King's Cross for passengers from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire or Norfolk.

Buses to replace trains

There will be a rail replacement service between St Neots and Bedford, where passengers can connect to train services to London St Pancras.

National Rail said buses would replace trains during the weekend between:

  • Potters Bar and Hitchin

  • St Albans and Stevenage via Hatfield

  • Hertford North and Stevenage

  • Hitchin and Royston

  • Hitchin and St Neots

  • St Neots and Bedford

  • Royston and Cambridge/Ely/King's Lynn

  • St Neots and Peterborough

  • Luton Airport Parkway and Stevenage via Hitchin

A spokesperson for LNER said: "This work will mainly impact passengers travelling on Sunday. The work is running from around 20:00 BST on Saturday to early morning on Monday, so the majority of disruption will be on Sunday.

"This work is part of the East Coast Digital Programme, which is installing digital signalling along the southern part of the East Coast Mainline and will remove traditional traffic light-style signalling alongside the railway."

Thameslink has also warned of no direct trains between London and Peterborough or London and King's Lynn on Sunday due to the work.

Greater Anglia said there was no disruptive engineering work taking place on Saturday but "trains and stations are expected to be very busy" as several events take place across the region, including Tottenham Hotspur v Everton and the Eastern Electrics festival at Waltham Cross.

Passengers have been advised to check travel updates, external with National Rail.
