A man who attacked a woman with a meat mallet in her home has been jailed for two years and three months.

Roman Pszczolkowski, 31, was socialising with the victim along with his then girlfriend on 24 September last year when he became aggressive while washing the dishes in the kitchen.

Douglas Courthouse heard he initially hit his girlfriend before attacking the other woman with the mallet.

Jailing him Deemster Graeme Cook said Pszczolkowski was a "violent man", particularly towards women.

'Abhorrent'

The court heard Pszczolkowski and his girlfriend had been visiting the victim at her home on 24 September 2023.

He became aggressive while washing the dishes after a comment was made about the whereabouts of his phone.

He then launched an attack on the women, hitting the victim on the ribs and knees with the mallet, the court was told.

The 31-year-old initially claimed the victim had fallen on the mallet when interviewed by police.

He later pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm.

In a victim impact statement read to the court, the victim said the attack had had a "big impact" on her life and she did not feel safe in her home.

She did not know if she would "ever stop being scared of him", it added.

The court heard Pszczolkowski had previously been sentenced to two months in prison for witness intimidation after visiting the victim's home in December and telling her to withdraw a witness statement about an unrelated matter.

Jailing him, Deemster Cook labelled Pszczolkowski's claim that the victim had fallen on the mallet "nonsense" and violence against women was something the court found "abhorrent".

Pszczolkowski was also issued with a restraining order banning him from contacting the victim.
