Rugby legend Alun Wyn Jones said that not speaking his own language is something "that he's not proud of".
Jones, whose wife and three daughters all speak Welsh at home, said learning the language was about "knowing my roots and belonging to my country".
The Wales and Lions captain features in S4C's Iaith ar Daith (Language on Tour) where a celebrity is paired with a well-known Welsh-speaking mentor as they travel to different parts of the country.
Jones was joined by actor and fellow Swansea native Steffan Rhodri who is best known for the role of Dave Coaches in comedy Gavin & Stacey.
The pair journey across Wales, retracing the places and moments that shaped their lives.
In Dinas Mawddwy, Gwynedd, they visit Wern Ddu, Jones' mother's family home, where he recalls childhood memories and even meets a distant relative still living in the area.
The journey also takes them to Bonymaen Rugby Club, near Swansea, a place close to Jones' heart, before visiting Llandovery College where he studied A Levels on a rugby scholarship.
In May this year, Jones surprised presenter Alun Williams with his Welsh language skills at the Eisteddfod yr Urdd 2025.
Other celebrities taking part in the series are actor Callum Scott Howells from the Channel 4 show It's a Sin who teams up with Lisa Jên, lead singer of the award-winning band 9Bach.
Melanie Walters, who plays Gwen in Gavin and Stacey, is guided by fellow actor and friend Donna Edwards from Welsh-language TV soap Pobol y Cwm.
