Charity submits plans for new HQ
- Published
A charity that has been supporting people with mental health issues for almost 50 years is planning to build a new headquarters.
North Staffordshire Mind was founded in 1976 and is based at Marsh Street South in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.
The building could be bulldozed to make way for a new purpose-built three-storey office if plans are approved by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
The proposals include a ground-floor cafe, secure waiting area for service users, counselling rooms, vehicle parking and a rooftop garden.
"The brief was to design a new head office for North Staffordshire Mind that would act as a central hub to all the services they provide in and around the area," according to a statement submitted as part of the application.
"Services and facilities that are currently offered at the existing office would be provided in the building, but there is an aspiration to develop a flexibility in to the building design that will allow the building to adapt to North Staffordshire Mind’s needs," it added.
The document said there would have a shop frontage on to Marsh Street and a separate service access.
It said the plan was to allow the cafe to be able to operate independently of the rest of the building.
