Public views sought again on council merger plans

Two parish councils could be merged under plans being put forward

A second public consultation has been opened into plans to merge two Surrey parish councils.
Public views on a proposal to bring together Caterham on the Hill and Caterham Valley were first sought in August.
The planned changes would see the existing authorities' five wards and 15 members brought under one new council covering all of Caterham.
Tandridge District Council said the second consultation was needed "to make sure local councils reflect the identity and needs of the community".
The wards would retain their current names - Harestone, Portley, Queens Park, Valley and Westway.
The two councils run events and services, including fun days, Christmas lights and park activities.
If the new council is created, its first elections would be held in May 2026.
The consultation runs until 7 December, external, with a final decision expected to be made in January.
