A man has been charged with the murder of a "gentle giant" grandfather who was found dead at a home in Manchester.

Fintan McDwyer was found dead at the property on Platt Lane in Fallowfield on 1 July.

Greater Manchester Police said he suffered "serious and fatal injuries which we believe were caused by a sharp instrument".

Direece Roche, 30, has been scheduled to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court later.

Mr McDwyer's family said he was "a true gentleman" who "always had a twinkle in his eye".

They added: "There isn't anyone who would say a bad word about Fintan, and it breaks our hearts that he has been denied years to be with his sons and grandchildren."
