Council expands plans to curb dangerous driving

Residents can have their say on plans to introduce further enforcement of traffic offences in Peterborough

A city council wants to impose enforcements across nine new locations to clamp down on traffic offences including ignoring signs and driving the wrong way down one-way streets.
Peterborough City Council has launched a six-week public consultation, external on the plans.
A scheme which started at four locations in February 2024 improved traffic compliance by 90%, the local authority said.
The council uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, and fines are sent by post to people who continue to ignore the restriction.
The additional schemes are:
Between Park Road and Church Walk - left turn only
Park Road to Westgate - right turn only
Westgate to Lincoln Road - no entry except buses
Park Road to Fitzwilliam Street junction - no entry
Misterton to Pennington, Orton – no entry
Brewster Avenue, Woodston – Safer School street
Riseholme, Orton – Safer School street
Chapel Street, Stanground – Safer School street
Bourges Boulevard, Millfield – Safer School street
Previously, ANPR cameras were installed at Long Causeway, Westgate and Queens Drive West in Peterborough city centre.
Councillor Alison Jones, cabinet member for housing and communities, said: "Our initial moving traffic enforcement has been highly effective, so we want to see this continue in other areas."
The consultation ends on 8 April.
