A man was struck by a car in a hit-and-run while trying to rescue a stray dog he spotted near a bus stop.
The 37-year-old was hit by a red Mazda 3 on Lye Bypass, near to its junction with Jackson Street, in Stourbridge at 16:40 GMT on 14 November.
West Midlands Police added the man - who had tried to save a stray pug - was recovering at home, but it was unclear what had happened to the dog.
The car was later discovered parked behind Wollescote Community Centre and has been seized for forensic examination.
A spokesperson for the force confirmed no arrests had yet been made, and appealed for dashcam footage.
"The driver has been urged to get in touch with us as soon as possible," they added.
