MP raises concerns about veterans' centre funding

An MP has said the a care centre for veterans is facing a funding shortfall and has asked the prime minister for help.
Helen Morgan, who represents North Shropshire, raised the issue during Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday.
She said the Veterans' Orthopaedic Service at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital was "by far the largest provider of veterans hospital care in the country"
The Liberal Democrat said: "Because of NHS changes in the way ICBs (Integrated Care Boards) charge each other, it's been left with a funding shortfall."
Replying to her invitation to visit the centre, Sir Keir Starmer said he understood the value of the centre, adding: "We are committed to ensuring that veterans receive the employment, the mental health and the housing support that they need."
The facility, which includes a therapy room as well as a dedicated hub to support veterans facing mental health issues also supports those facing homelessness and debt.
It was opened by Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, in 2023 and Morgan said: "It's a fine example of what you can build when the NHS and the local authority work together."
She asked: "Will the prime minister be able to come and visit this fantastic facility in beautiful north Shropshire and see for himself why it's so important we keep it going?"
Sir Keir said: "We're all grateful to our veterans for their service in protecting our country."
"I do understand the value of the centre that she references and the support that it provides for veterans."
