People living in eight tower blocks have been given safety advice after inspections were carried out.

Brighton & Hove City Council said the surveys showed they do not meet the standards to withstand a large collapse or fire.

The temporary regulations include bans on e-bikes and on vehicles parking underneath the blocks, which are in Hollingdean, Whitehawk and Kemp Town.

The council said a number of drop-in meetings will be held for residents over the coming weeks.

The eight blocks affected are:

  • Dudeney Lodge

  • Nettleton Court

  • Falcon Court

  • Heron Court

  • Kestrel Court

  • Kingfisher Court

  • Swallow Court

  • St James's House

The blocks were all built using a popular building method in the 1950s and 1960s which used precast concrete panel walls.

Gill Williams, cabinet member for housing and new homes, said: “We are working at pace to put in the additional precautions to ensure the safety of the buildings.

“We have not had any discussion on the longer-term future of the buildings at this stage. Any decisions on that will be made following full consultation with the residents.”
