The official opening date of a heritage park on the site of a town's former castle has been revealed.
West Northamptonshire Council said Castle Park in Northampton town centre would launch with a celebration event between 10:00 and 14:00 BST on 18 October.
The park - formerly a car park - will lie in the shadow of Castle Mound on Chalk Lane, which was once the site of the historically significant Northampton Castle, and has been supported by £1.6m from the government's Town's Fund, developer contributions and the council., external
James Petter, deputy leader of the Reform UK-controlled council, said it would be "a celebration of our local heritage, and a space designed for everyone to enjoy".
"As a key gateway from the train station, this park will elevate the arrival experience into Northampton, offering a vibrant and welcoming first impression," he said.
"This project brings together history, creativity and community spirit, and I'm proud to see it come to life.
"We look forward to welcoming residents to the opening and seeing families enjoy this park for years to come."
The 18 October event will begin with speeches and a ribbon cutting before a "variety of free activities" to include arts and crafts, face painting, music, sports and heritage exhibitions.
According to the council, the park features heritage poles with storytelling panels and interactive elements that reflect the site's historical significance, including its links to Northampton Castle.
As part of the project, a mural depicting the story of the castle has been created along St Andrew's Road with the support of funding from the Arts Council.

A new mural is also part of the new heritage park
