Traffic warning ahead of RAF Cosford Air Show
- Published
Drivers heading to the RAF Cosford Air Show have been warned of increased congestion with about 13,000 vehicles expected on the roads.
The Red Arrows will be among the military aircraft taking to the skies above Shropshire on Sunday.
Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to attend and National Highways warned that most would travel by car.
The organisation encouraged drivers to leave additional time for their journeys.
Special traffic measures will be put in place at junction three of the M54 near Cosford, including dedicated lanes for the event, with road users urged to pay attention to signage.
West Midlands Railway has said it would provide additional services to Cosford throughout the day but warned that the station would be very busy.
Queuing systems will also be in place at Cosford and Wolverhampton during the busier periods, the rail firm added.
'Exciting entertainment'
This year’s theme for the sold-out show will be “take flight”, with the hope that it would kickstart people’s enthusiasm in aviation and “potentially a career in the Royal Air Force”.
As well as the demonstrations, visitors will be able to learn about the RAF’s history and the technology used by the air force.
Wing Cdr Justin Blake, the air show’s chairperson, promised visitors it would be a “full day of fun and exciting entertainment”.
