A planning application for a new banking hub in Droitwich has been submitted after news its last bank will shut next year.

Santander said it intended to close 95 banks across the UK, including its branch in Victoria Square.

The new plans put forward to Wychavon District Council show the banking hub has been earmarked for a community space named The Hub, in St Andrew's Square, which closed on 9 August.

The proposals include an external cash machine, a new shopfront and entrance, according to planning documents.

"Internally, proposals include new internal partitions, floor finishes, wall finishes and ceiling finishes," the application added.

"All internal works will ensure there will be wheelchair access throughout the building.

"These changes will improve access for all within the property, with no impact on the surrounding area."

There are currently 179 hubs operating across the UK, plus 134 deposit services.

They are run by Cash Access UK, a non-profit organisation funded by major high street banks including Santander, NatWest, HSBC and Barclays.
