A comedy festival in Droitwich Spa to remember the late Rik Mayall has been nominated for a tourism award.

Earlier in the year, thirty venues hosted 200 events in the town where the Young Ones star grew up, from 31 May until 7 June.

More than 75% of headline shows at the Norbury Theatre sold out and included performances from Greg Davies, Peter Richardson and Helen Lederer.

The eight-day event has now been nominated as a finalist for Best Festival and Event in the Visit Worcestershire Tourism Awards 2025.

Speaking in June, leader of Wychavon District Council Richard Morris said the festival exceeded all expectations and provided a huge economic boost with businesses seeing their "best-ever" takings.

Mayall died 11 years ago and his friend and frequent collaborator Ben Elton was festival patron.

Festival director Stuart Panrucker said it was an honour for the event to be nominated and he hoped the public would vote for it.

"It has been a privilege to organise the inaugural Rik Mayall Comedy Festival, and we're absolutely thrilled to be a finalist in the Visit Worcester Tourism which is now down to a public vote," he said.

He added the event was only made possible by sponsors, community partners, and volunteers "who worked tirelessly to bring the festival to life".
