People in Guernsey are reacting to Jersey choosing DFDS to provide its ferry services.

Jersey picked Danish firm DFDS to operate its lifeline passenger and freight services.

In October, Guernsey chose Brittany Ferries to run its sea links.

Filip Hermann from DFDS said the company was "thrilled" to have been awarded the Jersey contract.

'Respect Jersey's decision'

In response to the decision taken by Jersey, Deputy Neil Inder, President of the Committee for Economic Development, said: "I have consistently said that a pan-island service would be preferable but that we would respect Jersey’s decision no matter which way it went.

"That is still the case.

"From our perspective we are very happy to be working with Brittany Ferries and will of course work with Jersey to ensure inter-island route opportunities are fully explored."

Gemma Domaille, from Guernsey, hopes timetables will improve

Gemma Domaille, from Guernsey, said: "I think it’s going to cause some complications.

"I know a lot of people aren’t happy about the timetable between here and Jersey.

"It’s going to make things a little bit more competitive and maybe the prices will be a bit different, but I think Guernsey will probably lose out more than anyone else."
