Police said a 34-year-old man has been arrested after a Mercedes car was damaged in Eastbourne

A man has been arrested in connection with a suspected arson attack in Eastbourne.

Sussex Police said officers were called to reports of a car on fire at an address in The Hydneye just before midnight on Sunday.

A 34-year-old man from Hailsham was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody.

Police said the occupants of the house were evacuated as a precaution.

A black Mercedes car was damaged in the incident but there were no reports of any injuries.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said crews attended and one hose reel was deployed at the scene.

The fire service remained at the location until 00:21 BST on Monday.
