A new RNLI lifeboat honouring a volunteer who died during the Occupation has arrived in Guernsey.

St Peter Port RNLI said its Atlantic 85 class inshore lifeboat, named in honour of Harold Hobbs, was "ready to respond to the next emergency at sea".

Mr Hobbs was killed by German forces while serving on a Guernsey lifeboat in 1940.

Jason Hobbs, the current volunteer lifeboat operations manager and great-nephew of Mr Hobbs, said it was a memorable time for the family.

"It is a very proud day for us all here at St Peter Port RNLI, to see the Harold Hobbs officially in service, ready to respond and assist anyone in difficulty around the waters of the Bailiwick," he said.
