A police constable who knows the area "inside out" is to take on a new role as a dedicated town centre officer.

PC Tom Shorthouse will become the beat manager for Nuneaton and Bedworth town centres from Friday, Warwickshire Police said.

He will be part of the Safer Neighbourhood Team and organise its activities and promote engagement with the community.

Ch Insp Steve Davies said PC Shorthouse would "allow us to keep a close oversight on town centre safety".

“Tom is an experienced officer who knows our area inside and out, and I am greatly looking forward to the benefits he will bring to the people of Nuneaton and Bedworth," he said.

Nuneaton's Conservative MP Marcus Jones added residents would welcome the role.

“This will provide visible reassurance to local residents in Nuneaton and a strong presence to tackle town centre crime and anti-social behaviour," he said.
