A man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a woman on Teesside.

The victim was found by emergency services at a property on Baysdale Road in Thornaby early on Thursday amid reports of concern for a 47-year-old woman.

Despite the efforts of paramedics she died a short time later.

Cleveland Police said the death was currently being treated as unexplained but a 50-year-old man was being questioned on suspicion of murder.

Det Insp Matt Hollingsworth, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said officers were in the area conducting an investigation and "I encourage anyone who has concerns to speak to a local officer".
