A street in Derby shut by a suspected gas explosion will "remain closed for some time", police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the blast in Eden Street, Alvaston, at 19:24 BST on Tuesday.
One man was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham in a critical condition.
Residents from several properties were forced out of their homes, with up to four terraced houses and cars suffering "significant damage".

Search teams also found a small dog, which is now in the care of a veterinary practice, within the property.
Eden Street will remain closed overnight and throughout Thursday, according to Derbyshire Police, and "for some time" afterwards.
However, emergency services were scaling back their response on Wednesday evening.

The explosion badly damaged the properties
A fence has been erected around the properties at the centre of the blast.
Demolition work was scheduled to begin on Thursday, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said.
Arrangements are being made to allow residents outside of this area back into their properties.
Alvaston residents may experience "some temporary disruption" to electricity supply, it added, and anyone experiencing issues with their gas supplies should contact Cadent.
The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.
