Around 500 wild swimmers are taking to the sea off Brighton to mark International Women's Day.

The event takes place on Brighton beach at 15:00 GMT on Saturday.

In 2023 the swim attracted around 250 women.

Organisers said they were confident the number taking part this year would be double.

The free event for sea swimmers is to raise awareness for International Women's Day.

Nicky Chisholm, event organiser, said: "Everyone is uniting to celebrate the achievements of women worldwide and promote solidarity through their shared love for the sea."

Ms Chisholm said the event was not exclusively for women and would welcome "everyone who supports the cause of gender equality".

She added: "This is a mini adventure waiting to happen - 500 women, 500 bobble hats and food for the soul.

"What's not to love?"
