Man released on bail over woman's 'unexpected' death

Essex Police is investigating the death of a woman in her 40s

A 48-year-old man has been released on bail after being arrested by police investigating the "unexpected" death of a woman.

Essex Police said the woman, who was in her 40s, died at an address in Hillary Close, Heybridge, Essex, on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called after concerns were raised about her welfare, the force added.

Detectives said they remained "open-minded" as to how the woman died and were following a number of lines of inquiry.

"Her death is being treated as unexpected," the force said in a statement.

"As part of our investigation, a 48-year-old man was arrested.

"He has now been released on police bail and our inquiries continue.

"We remain open-minded as to how the woman died and our investigation is continuing at pace, with a number of lines of inquiry being progressed."
