A man who was attacked in East Sussex last month has since died in hospital, police say.

The man was assaulted in Canute Close, Eastbourne, on 26 October.

The 66-year-old was pronounced dead on Wednesday, and police are investigating whether the man's death is linked to what happened last month.

A 24-year-old man was previously charged and has appeared in court in connection with the assault.

Detectives are renewing their appeal for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward.

Det Supt Jayantha Mendis-Gunasekera said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family following the tragic news of his death in hospital.

"A suspect was arrested and charged in connection with the assault, and we are not seeking anyone else in relation to the assault.

He added that the attack was "believed to have been an isolated incident that does not pose a wider threat to the community".
