Work has begun to patch up a riverside footpath that collapsed following recent storms.

Part of the river walk in Lyme Regis was washed away during Sunday's heavy rain.

The town council said about a metre of the path was lost and part of the remaining walkway had been undermined, making it dangerous for pedestrians.

It said another section where a "significant crack" appeared could also collapse.

The walkway, near Woodmead Road bridge, has been closed by Dorset Council but people have been moving the barriers and signs.

It will be closed for up to 21 days from Hatchett to Jordan Flats while Dorset Council carries out temporary repairs.

A diversion takes pedestrians along Anning Road.

Works for a more permanent fix are not likely to take place before 2025, according to Lyme Regis Town Council.

Overnight downpours hit several regions across the south west on Sunday, causing flooding and disruption.
