Leaders have "significantly improved" safety at Ashview, the CQC said

Care home staff should be "really proud" of their efforts in improving a service, a watchdog said.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) upgraded Ashview, in Basildon, Essex, external, from "inadequate" to "good" in a report published on Friday.

Inspectors said the eight autistic people living at the home felt "safe, respected and listened to".

"This achievement reflects our unwavering commitment to providing high-quality support for residents," an Ashview spokeswoman said.

'Significantly improved'

Staff created personalised care plans with residents at the home and their families, the report said.

The facility was fully refurbished after the previous inspection, with people given "a sense of ownership" and allowed to design aspects of their bedrooms.

It was now "full of accessible features" and had improved access for wheelchair users, inspectors noted.

"Leaders have significantly improved safety at Ashview with staff well trained to protect people from abuse and neglect," said Hazel Roberts, a CQC director.

"Everyone at Ashview should be really proud of the improvements they’ve made."

The unannounced inspection came after concerns raised during previous CQC action in August 2023.

That report found staff used "outdated and disrespectful language" to describe people's needs.

Ms Roberts said the home would continue to be monitored "to make sure these changes are sustained long-term".
