A closed door stopped a fire from an electric heater that destroyed a bedroom spreading through a home.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the ground-floor of the home on Northam Road, Southampton at about 19:30 GMT on Saturday evening.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue said the resident's "wise decision" to close the door behind them as they left kept the fire damage to the bedroom, leaving the rest of the home untouched.

It said said one person was treated at the scene by South Central Ambulance Service paramedics.
