More than 250 nominations have been received for the Proud to Care awards, celebrating those in Cornwall’s independent adult social care sector.

Work is under way to shortlist these nominations, which cover 11 different categories, ahead of an awards ceremony taking place in September.

A panel from Citizens Checkers, Cornwall Rural Community Charity and Carers Partnership Board, has been reviewing the nominations.

Councillor Andy Virr, Cornwall Council cabinet member for adult social care and health, said: "Nominations have come from a wide range of sources including line managers, colleagues and people who are receiving care."

He said: "The stories are very touching and show how much people value care workers, even though this isn't always fully recognised or reported.

"Everyone who has been nominated has received a certificate acknowledging their achievement.

"I’d like to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination - there is some exceptional and impactful work being carried out daily in our communities."
