Work designed to encourage more environmentally-friendly forms of travel in Cambridge will involve a series of road closures this week.

The closures will begin at 20:00 BST on Monday between Cook Close and the guided busway, including parts of Lovell Road, Ramsden Square and Kendal Way.

The wider project is due to be completed by the end of September.

Thomas Porter, project manager for the Greater Cambridge Partnership, said: "These upgrades will make it easier for people to travel by bus, by bike or on foot to work, school, meet their friends or visit the many great businesses along Milton Road.

"We apologise for any disruption these overnight works will cause to people who live in or travel along Milton Road and thank everyone for their patience as we enter the last few weeks of our work on the scheme."

During the overnight closures, emergency services, pedestrians and cyclists will be able to travel down Milton Road but there will be no access to bus services.

The closures include:

  • Monday, 12 August – Green End Road will be closed for about 100m on the approach to the King’s Hedges junction

  • Tuesday, 13 August – King’s Hedges Road will be closed for about 100m on the approach to the King’s Hedges junction

  • Wednesday, 14 August to Thursday, 15 August – Milton Road will be closed north of the King's Hedges junction with Milton Road

  • Friday, 16 August – Milton Road will be closed between Kendal Way and south of the King's Hedges junction. Kendal Way and Ramsden Square will be closed at the junction with Milton Road

  • Monday, 19 August – the King's Hedges junction will be closed before the junction on the southern, eastern and western arms, and all the way to the guided busway on the northern arm. Lovell Road will be closed at the junction with Milton Road

  • Tuesday, 20 August – a temporary four-way traffic-lights system will be in place while the King's Hedges junction remains open

The partnership said work might continue until Friday, 23 August, but there will be access for residents.
