Women pay up after birthday meal 'dine and dash'
- Published
A group of women have finally paid their £174 bill after "dining and dashing" at a Scarborough seafood restaurant six weeks ago, police have confirmed.
The party of four dined at Lookout on the Pier on 15 September, where they ordered bottles of wine, oysters and tapas.
Despite clearing their plates, the women did not settle their bill, which prompted a CCTV appeal to identify them.
Restaurant owner Gillian Partridge said the owed money had appeared in her account on Friday and the matter had now been resolved.
Thanking the community for their support, Ms Partridge said: "It has been very touching.
"A lady came in the other day with two young kids to say she didn't want anything but wanted to donate £10 after seeing the news.
"The money will be going to charity but it was lovely."
'Busier since'
North Yorkshire Police confirmed no criminal action would be taken, at the request of the victim, as the money had been returned.
Ms Partridge added customers had rallied around the business and it had been "busier since".
"Our chef told me we had 490 hits on our website the other day," she said.
"The staff are happy that everything has been sorted.
"Hopefully the attention this got will make people like them [the women] think again."
