Access to a road in Cornwall has been disrupted with temporary traffic lights in place after a significant sewer burst.

South West Water said it was working to fix the issue on Commercial Road in Penyrn.

The burst happened on Monday afternoon, spilling foul smelling water into the street.

The water company apologised for the disruption and said it was "working hard" to fix the issue.

'Stop issues'

It said: "We are using tankers to remove flows from the pipe so the repair can be made.

“We will be using temporary traffic lights on the road so we can finish this work as quickly and safely as possible.

"We are sorry for any disruption this may cause.”

South West Water added it had invested £850,000 to replace the main and "stop issues like this occurring".

It said it aimed to complete the final stages of the replacement scheme in May 2025.
