Crews tackle fire at 17-storey block of flats

More than 35 firefighters have tackled a blaze at a 17-storey block of flats in Walsall.

The fire, which began at about 13:30 BST, is believed to have affected one flat on the eighth floor of Humphries House in the Brownhills area of the borough.

Cordons were put in place and the fire on Lindon Drive was confirmed to be out by 15:25 BST, with no reports of anybody being hurt, West Midlands Fire Service said.

Fire investigators are due to look into the cause.

Appliances from Aldridge, Bloxwich, Walsall, Willenhall, Bilston, Sutton Coldfield, Perry Barr and Lichfield were deployed to the residential building.

At about 15:40 BST, the fire service said it would be scaling down its operation to four fire engines.
