Flying enthusiasts are among groups interested in taking over an airfield in Wester Ross.

Highland Council has been exploring future uses of small airstrips it owns, including the one at Plockton.

Light aircraft owners have expressed interest in buying or leasing it, according to a council report.

Plockton Community Development Trust is also interested in the airfield, which was opened in the 1960s.

Highland Council has also been looking at the futures of Ashaig Airfield on Skye and a site at Dornoch in Sutherland.

Local authority officials have recommended Ashaig remain available to aircraft and its potential for commercial flights continue to be explored.

In their report to Highland Council's economy and infrastructure committee, which is meeting later this week, the officers said a number of offers had been received for Dornoch Airfield.

Plockton is a popular visitor destination.

Its airfield was constructed by Royal Engineers under a scheme to provide them with training and also help local communities.
