Woman dies in crash involving car and fire engine

A woman died after she was involved in a crash between a car and a fire engine in Cheshire, police have said.

The collision happened shortly before 07:30 GMT, at the junction of Crewe Road and Close Lane in Alsager.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire engine was responding to an emergency at the time.

The 59-year-old driver of the car, a Lexus NX, received casualty care from firefighters until paramedics arrived and was later taken to Royal Stoke Hospital, where she died.

No firefighters were seriously hurt, and an investigation into the crash is under way.
