Village sports club plans new padel courts

The two courts would be created on an "underutilised" football pitch in Dunnington

Plans to build padel facilities at a village sports centre near York have been submitted.
The Playing Fields Association (PFA) has applied to install two padel courts at Dunnington Sports Club on Common Road.
The PFA, a registered charity, said the planned courts would increase the range of sports offered by the club.
Courts would be placed on the site of an existing "underutilised" football pitch, it said, with no impact on neighbouring homes.
Moving the pitch would also allow the club to have extra parking spaces, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
"Padel is a very fast growing sport both in the UK and across the world," the application stated.
"It provides a sport that can be played by and appeals to a wide range of users, with everyone welcome from entry level to advanced players."
No date has been set for City of York Council to consider the proposals.
