Jersey ferry link licence could be extended
- Published
Jersey's next freight ferry company could get a licence to operate between the island and the UK for 15 years.
Currently the sea transport policy licence for the Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro/Ro) service holds for seven years.
Deputy Kirsten Morel, Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, issued the updated guidelines, external to the Harbour Master which gave out the licences.
The guidelines would allow the master to give a permit to a single exclusive operator for 15 years - or to any company that applies for one.
Mr Morel said it would also allow for a five year extension period "if required".
"These changes are to help ensure the long-term security of supply of Ro/Ro freight and combined passenger and private vehicle services," he said.
Companies expected to bid for the new licence have been carrying out berthing trials in Jersey Harbour.
