A man has been taken to hospital with "serious injuries" after being hit by a lorry in Leicestershire.

Officers were called to a stretch of the A5199 Welford Road, between Kilby and the River Sence near Wigston, just before 06:30 GMT after reports a lorry had collided with a man.

A pedestrian in his 20s was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, said police.

A 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

He was later released under investigation, the force said

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward with information.
