A man has been arrested over the reported sexual assault of a woman in a nightclub in York.

The woman said an unknown man sexually touched her while she was on a dance floor at Club Salvation on Tanner Row on Sunday morning, according to North Yorkshire Police.

The alleged incident happened at about 02:15 GMT and a man in his 20s was later detained by club security staff and police were called, a force spokesperson said.

"He was then arrested and taken into custody for questioning and has since been released under investigation to allow for further inquiries to be carried out," they added.

Anyone who saw what happened, or who had information which could be useful to the investigation, was asked to contact police.
