Road shut due to 'significant landslip'

The landslip on the A592 in Cumbria followed recent heavy rain in the county

An emergency road closure has been put in place due to a "significant landslip".
Westmorland and Furness Council said the A592 had been shut at Kirkstone Pass, between Troutbeck and Kirkstone Inn, due to the landslip which had "partly undermined the carriageway".
It said the road had been shut so that technical and safety assessments could take place. Meanwhile motorists were being diverted on a lengthy route via the A6.
The local authority said the landslip had been caused by the recent heavy rain.
It said the safety of road users was its main priority and that further updates would be provided in due course.
