A man has been charged over a stabbing in a town centre.

A man in his 20s was stabbed in the chest at Highgate, Kendal, in Cumbria, on Sunday evening.

Cumbria Police said he had "serious but non-life-threatening" injuries and remained in hospital.

A 22-year-old was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a bladed article, and appeared before Barrow Magistrates' Court.

He was remanded to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on 6 December.

A police spokesman said: "This is being treated as an isolated incident, with no ongoing risk to the public.

"However, detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone with information who has yet to come forward to do so."
