Two men have been jailed for their involvement in disorder in the Harehills area of Leeds last summer.

A double-decker bus was torched and a police car flipped on its side as hundreds of people took to the streets on 18 July.

Christopher Bairstow, 31, and Giovani Badaru, 20, were both jailed for 20 months at Leeds Crown Court on Friday for their roles in the unrest.

Bairstow, of Garden House Lane, Leeds, had pleaded guilty to violent disorder, while Badaru, of Bexley Terrace, Leeds, had pleaded guilty to violent disorder and attempted arson.

According to West Yorkshire Police, 20 people have so far been convicted as part of the force's ongoing investigation into the disorder.

More than 70 people were arrested and 35 charged, police said, with "more to come" as the investigation continues.

Ch Supt Steve Dodds, District Commander of Leeds District Police, said: "Every one of these convictions takes us one step further to delivering justice to residents in Harehills and I can promise there is much more to come.

"We have more cases in the court system and continue to work through this very large scale investigation to uncover and properly punish those responsible for the disgraceful scenes we saw."
