A boy riding an e-scooter suffered serious head injuries in an apparent hit-and-run.

The 12-year-old was in Kinnersley Street, heading towards Maltby Street, Middlesbrough, on Sunday evening, when he was struck by a vehicle, which left the scene.

He was taken to hospital with injuries including a fractured skull, a bleed on the brain and injuries to his legs, Cleveland Police said.

Officers are attempting to trace the driver of a black VW Touareg, which is believed to have hit the boy, at about 17:40 BST.

Police said the car was travelling along Maltby Street towards Macbean Street, when it collided with the scooter at the junction.

The force has released the registration number SP57 NCF, to try and trace the driver.

"Officers are urging the driver of the vehicle to come forward, and asking witnesses to the collision, or anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to contact them," a spokesman said.
