Open days planned at popular city allotment sites

Allotments across Leicester are being opened to members of the public.
Leicester City Council said Groby Road, Red Hill, and Stokes Wood allotments will host open days on 17 August, with Rowley Fields allotments hosting a similar event on 25 August.
The Stokes Wood Allotment Society is also hosting its annual horticultural show on 18 August.
The events are being held as part of National Allotment Week, which has been celebrated by the National Allotment Society for 22 years.
Vi Dempster, assistant city mayor for culture, libraries and community centres, said the city's 43 allotment sites "are really popular" with residents.
"It’s not just the satisfaction of growing your own fruit and veg that makes allotment gardening so worthwhile," she said.
"It’s also a really sociable activity, great exercise, excellent for your mental health, and a chance to share and gain gardening knowledge with other people.”
