Two men have been seriously injured in a crash involving military vehicles which closed a dual carriageway.
Drivers on the A34 in Berkshire and Hampshire were trapped in queues for several hours after emergency services were called to the scene near Newbury at about 11:00 BST.
Police said two men had been taken to hospital.
A witness said one military vehicle, which was travelling in a convoy, overturned, while another one crossed the central reservation.
The woman, who asked not to be named, posted on Facebook: "About 12 minutes ago we witnessed a large crash as the A343 merges with the A34.
"Four military vehicles were convoying very close together and as vehicles trying to join the road one of the military vehicles flipped as it turned and rolled twice.
"Another of the convoys went over the central reservation trying to avoid the collision, causing another collision on the other side of the road."
The Ministry of Defence said it was aware of a collision involving two military vehicles but could not comment further.
National Highways said the A34 was "likely to remain closed for several hours" between the A343 and the A4.
It said there was "significant barrier damage" at the scene.
Hampshire police said officers were called at 11:04 to the scene near Wash Water.
The force said: "Two men have suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision on the A34 earlier today.
"A man in his 30s suffered a serious injury to his leg and has been taken to hospital.
"Another man in his 20s suffered a serious injury to his arm and has been taken to hospital.
"Both the northbound and southbound carriageways remain closed while the emergency services deal with the incident."
