Two dogs have attacked and killed a deer on private woodland.

Gloucestershire Police said the incident happened at about 10:00 BST on 7 September in Hazelwood at Minchinhampton near Stroud.

The force said a tan Lurcher and small black Terrier chased and attacked the deer, leaving it with fatal injuries.

Officers have appealed for the owner of the dogs, or anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened, to make contact.

Police said dog owners must ensure there are no livestock or wild animals in the area before letting their pets off the lead, and allowing a dog to worry or attack livestock is a criminal offence.

Gloucestershire Police issued a statement reminding dog owners of their responsibilities, external after the deer attack.
